Good Afternoon CMAC Families,

We are back! While this isn’t how we wanted to get here, we are very happy to be back teaching your children. The joy and positivity I saw from our students as they returned this week and connected with friends and staff was wonderful to see. I think they missed us, and I know we missed them.

This week we have really focused on on reconnecting with students, returning to routines, and determining next best steps to ensure we get our students back on track learning the key skills and processes that will set them up for success this year, and into the future. I am confident we can get back on track and continue with our work to keep CMAC an excellent place to learn and to work. Next week, athletics will continue with practices for our basketball teams. Games will resume the following week, on November 13. From November 13 onward, we can also begin to plan offsite activities again.

Thank you all for your support. I know families have also done the important work of connecting with and supporting their children in these past weeks. It shows, and it is much appreciated.

Cougar Café Grand Re-Opening

The Cougar Café is back! For those who have joined our school this year, the Cougar Café is the hot food cafeteria we run in our lunchroom. We focus on providing affordable, exciting, nutritious meals. This service is available to all students, and we take cash or card.

West Coast 2026

This year, our grade 9 students will have the opportunity to go on the West Coast Sailing Trip in British Columbia with Bluewater Adventures. We will be travelling Tuesday, March  10 to Saturday  March 14, 2026.

This West Coast fieldtrip provides a safe ocean going five day expedition within the protected waters of the Salish Sea (Canadian Gulf Islands) aboard certified Transport Canada sailing vessels. With all required safety equipment, certified captains, qualified crew, and use of ocean going kayaks.

We are finalizing costs and we expect the trip to cost approximately  $2,700.00 - $3,000 per student. This cost includes return flights to Victoria B.C., entrance to all exhibits and activities, as well as all food and accommodations on the boat. As a group we will also be offering fundraising opportunities throughout the year to lower the cost of the trip.

If you are interested in having your child join this event, please join us for an online information session on Tuesday Nov 4 at 6:00 pm. A more detailed email will be sent to Grade 9 parents with meeting instructions.

Please reach out to Jessica Dokimenko is you have any questions. jedokimenko@cbe.ab.ca

Demographic Forms

Please complete your Demographic Verification Forms in MyCBE! This is an essential piece of startup paperwork that ensures we have the right contact information to get ahold of you in case of emergency. It is a responsibility of the school, and families, to ensure these are completed each year. The good news is that if nothing has changed for you, it is a quick process

Park Donations

Thank you to those who were able to donate to our park replacement fund at the BBQ. In case you did not get a chance to do so, and would like to, the donation link for our school is below. Our park is slated for demolition, so we need to get into some serious fundraising now to replace it. We will be discussing the park at Parent Council Meetings if you would like to join us!

School Council

Thank you to all who attended our most recent School Council Meeting. Thank you also for the funding that was approved for our Learning Commons, and Science, Social Students, and Band Programs!

Our Next School Council meeting will be held Thursday November 13 at 6:30 pm, online on Microsoft Teams (link below). All parents, guardians, and family members are welcome to attend.

Athletics

Please have a look in your MyCBE account and pay any unpaid fees.

If students want to try out for a team, they MUST first return their Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout form Included in my email.

Basketball teams are up and running. Please be sure to students are able to be picked up, or find their own way home, at the end of all games and practices. Coaching is a volunteer activity our teachers take on. Teaching all day, then coaching afterward already makes for a long, long day. No need to make it longer while they wait for our kiddos to get picked up.

Wrestling informational meetings will be held in the coming weeks. Tell your kids to keep an eye on the morning announcements.

If students wish to attend sporting events as a spectator, they need to come with a parent. This helps our coaches to keep their focus on the athletes who are competing. If your child is playing on a sports team, or volunteering, please pick them up right at the end of their games and practices. Our teachers generously volunteer their time, and like the kids, are tired by the end of the day. If students cannot be picked up on time, they will not be allowed to participate.

To participate in games and practices, students must be present for the duration of the school day, as per Calgary Middle Level Schools Amateur Athletics rules. They must also represent themselves as positive members of the school community, as per the standards set by our school for students in leadership roles.

Volunteers

We need your help! Our teachers are doing a great job organizing exciting field trip opportunities for your kids. Please, if you are able to volunteer, complete the new volunteer process so we can keep offering these experiences for our students.

Fees

For families with low incomes, the CBE provides a fee waiver program.

If there is a field trip or other learning opportunity with a fee, and this fee will prevent your child from participating, please connect with the principal. No child should miss a learning opportunity offered to their class due to financial reasons.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, thanks for reading to the end.

Your Principal,
