Good Afternoon CMAC Families
Well, let’s start with the good. Today was Terry Fox Day. Our students fundraised $1350 this year! Money was split down the middle, with half going to the Terry Fox Foundation, and the other half going to the Poke Box at the Children’s Hospital. It felt really good to end on a high note today. We held our first ever outdoor assembly. Students walked and ran laps on our Terry Fox route, with smiles and high fives. The weather was perfect. Students left the school happy, and that was really good to see.
As you likely know, the school will be closed Monday due to the teacher strike (this includes me), and students will stay at home. We don’t know yet when schools will re-open. We are all hoping for a fast resolution so we can get back to doing what we all love to do: teaching your kids. Know that we will miss them.
For the most up to date information on the strike, please visit the CBE Labour Action website. CBE will also communicate with families through email.
Upcoming Calendar and Events
Monday October 6 – School Closed – No school for students
Tuesday October 7 onward – Assume school is closed until informed by the CBE.
Access to Student Lunches During a Strike/Lockout
If your child has been accessing Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids (BB4CK) school lunchs BB4CK will be continuing to provide lunches to kids who need them via a lunch-pickup model at designated sites in Calgary during the strike.
As this is an evolving situation, they will be keeping this webpage updated with further details and with the locations at which your family will be able to access BB4CK lunches. Caring for Kids During Strike
Demographic Forms
Please complete your Demographic Verification Forms in MyCBE! This is an essential piece of startup paperwork that ensures we have the right contact information to get ahold of you in case of emergency. It is a responsibility of the school, and families, to ensure these are completed each year. The good news is that if nothing has changed for you, it is a quick process.
Park Donations
Thank you to those who were able to donate to our park replacement fund at the BBQ. In case you did not get a chance to do so, and would like to, the donation link for our school is below. Our park is slated for demolition, so we need to get into some serious fundraising now to replace it. We will be discussing the park at School Council Meetings if you would like to join us!

School Council
Thank you to all who attended our most recent School Council Meeting. Thank you also for the funding that was approved for our Learning Commons, and Science, Social Students, and Band Programs! Meetings are on hold for the time being. After the strike I will communicate our next meeting date.
Teams
All athletics have been cancelled from October 6-31. The CBE will update us when we return. I want to thank our soccer and basketball teams for all of their hard work. We were on track for a great year, and I am sad to see it put on hold.
Volunteers
We need your help! Our teachers are doing a great job organizing exciting field trip opportunities for your kids. Please, if you are able to volunteer, complete the new volunteer process so we can keep offering these experiences for our students.
Fees
For families with low incomes, the CBE provides a fee waiver program. Please see the following link for details: CBE | Fee Waivers
If there is a field trip or other learning opportunity with a fee, and this fee will prevent your child from participating, please connect with the principal. No child should miss a learning opportunity offered to their class due to financial reasons.
Take good care of yourselves everyone, thanks for reading to the end ;) We hope to see you all again soon!
